“Bricolage & the Nimble Mind”

With Rev. Beth Banks, Anne Jungerman, and Brian Shaw

Bricolage is “the process of improvisation in a human endeavor.” Think of bricolage as tinkering to create something new from odd bits and pieces.

Can we recreate new scenarios from past successes and failures?  The nimble mind can identify the cause of success and re-create it under different circumstances. It can also transform failure into a new beginning. You’re likely to find some surprises in the service this morning.

Harvest Altar Bricolage on Sunday

Let’s create our own improvised altar together. Bring a food item to add to the altar. Examples? Perhaps a dozen cookies, a squash, grapes, herbs, a small bouquet of flowers, or a few of your favorite apples from the store. What would you like to share with others? You’ll take home some small treat you did not bring.

Bio – Rev. Beth Banks

Rev. Beth practices her own version of bricolage as a spiritual practice, using collage, acrylics, flower petals, pine needles, and found small objects. Her bricolage post cards are sent to long-time friends, new aquaintances, as well as surprised random recipients. Some would call the postcards art, but the word ‘art’ suggests more planning than this effort deserves.

She served as a parish minister for 34 years. Beth currently coordinates cultural opportunities for mid-career Fulbright professionals visiting the United States. She also volunteers as the Donor Development co-chair for an auditioned choir, The Davis Community Chorale.
