Remembering Our Way Forward

with Carmen Barsody, Sam Dennison, Anne Jungerman, and Brian Shaw

We’ve come a long way and we have a long way yet to go. We’ve learned a lot along the way but we have so much more to learn. What and who do we need to remember to compel and guide us forward in these times? Perhaps where we have been will help us remember our way forward.

Carmen Barsody: In 1998 Carmen, a member of a Franciscan Community in Minnesota, co-founded Faithful Fools Street Ministry with Rev. Kay Jorgensen, a UU Minister, in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, where she currently lives and works with Sam Dennison. Carmen’s presence in the Tenderloin is the natural culmination of years engaged at street level, listening, learning, and walking with neighbors through her work in Venezuela, inner-city Chicago, the barrios of Managua, Nicaragua and now San Francisco.

Sam Dennison: Sam Dennison’s life as Fool began in 2011 doing a short oral history project. Somehow documenting the stories of Fools young and old, poet and accountant, calm and chaotic, created an invitation to a life of presence that Sam just couldn’t resist. It’s never a dull life, filled with challenge, but it’s a joy nonetheless which Sam wouldn’t have missed for the world.
