“Rituals for the New Year”
with Rev. Esther Wallace, Anne Jungerman, and Brian Shaw
For many of us, January is a month filled with intentions of new beginnings and fresh starts, and this service invites us to think about the role of ritual as a support structure for our intentions and resolutions. This January in particular, we may be contemplating the need for spiritual support as we navigate all the new beginnings 2025 has to offer — both those we welcome and those we dread. In this service, Rev. Esther will offer a homily on the nature of ritual and spiritual practice and will invite the congregation to take part in several small, interactive ritual stations. This service is intended to be accessible to and fun for folks of all ages, so it’s a good Sunday to bring the whole family along, or to invite your friends who may be curious about Unitarian Universalism!
Esther Wallace works and plays in the realms of meaning-making, sacred space, and social justice. Raised Christian, Esther has cherished being invited to profound experiences in Buddhist, Taoist, Humanist, Muslim, and Pagan communities. Esther’s spiritual journey led to her becoming Jewish while studying at Starr King School for the Ministry, and today she identifies as a Jewish Unitarian Universalist. Esther is very interested in emergent spiritual communities and the intersections of ministry and disability.
