“Social Justice Sunday – Mental Health Support”
with Yessica Toral, Shauna Tackett, Maggie Ingalls, and Brian Shaw
Innovations Community Center (a program of On the Move), is a peer-staffed mental health program that supports individuals from underserved communities, exploring the interplay between mental health and aging, poverty, race, immigration status, sexual identity, and substance use. The Center promotes collaborative relationships between service recipients and mental health & wellness practitioners throughout Napa County, working together to foster healing through storytelling, artistic expression, healthy living, spiritual practice, and social connections.
Site Coordinator Shauna Tackett began working at Innovations Community Center in 2017, through the Department of Rehabilitation. She had been in recovery from alcohol, drugs and untreated mental health challenges for about 10 months. Initially at Innovations she supported the daily functions of the center as a Peer Mentor. Within a short time, Shauna was facilitating a coping skills group, sharing tools and skills from her personal recovery. She found that sharing her experience and tools with others gave them hope and practical support that could bring change in their lives. She feels honored to give back to her community in this capacity.
Shauna and Program Director Yessica Toral will present information to us about their community center and about On the Move and its other programs.
