“Waiting at the Mailbox”
with Rev. Beth Banks and Brian Shaw
Shortly before Christmas in 1933, an advertisement appeared in the Canton, Ohio newspaper offering $5.00 (the equivalent of $120 today) to those who wrote and sent pleas for financial help. Edith May was one of 75 people to respond. She didn’t have money to buy a stamp, and begged the mail carrier to deliver her letter to a mysterious to the designated post office box of Mr. B. Virdot. This is a true-life story of people who waited at their mailboxes for a sign of hope.
