Minister’s Message
Dear Ones,
The holiday season is in full swing, bringing with it so many memories and feelings. The long nights and chilly weather of December bring me a desire to spend time resting and reflecting, while enjoying as many traditions with others as possible. Those traditions sometimes bring poignant memories of loved ones who are no longer with us. Yet they also bring the opportunity to make new memories, as we share the beauty of the season, and the fullness of life, with loved ones who are here now.
As Unitarian Universalists, we celebrate the fullness of life by drawing from our diverse cultures, experiences, and theologies. On December 21, we will hold our beloved annual Solstice Celebration, with stories, songs, drumming, and rituals to call back the light. The ritual begins at sunset, but come early to add your ingredients to our “stone soup.” On December 22, our service will focus on the season’s call to rest and reflection. On December 24 at 3 pm, we will hold a Christmas Eve service, in which we will celebrate the wonder and hope of Christmas. And at the December 29 service, we will mark Hanukkah, with a latkes, pancakes, and camaraderie. All are welcome at these gatherings. Bring your family and friends!
This year, rest, renewal, and community are especially important, as we prepare ourselves to redouble efforts on behalf of the marginalized and oppressed. If love is the power that holds us together and powers our work for justice, let us use this time to fill our cups to overflowing.
Whatever your holiday traditions, religious and secular, you practice, may you open your heart to the joy and warmth of the season.
In faith,
Rev. Susan
